The staff at Heishman Funeral Home, Inc. send condolences to the family of Alfred Russell Heishman Jr. Alfred Russell Heishman Jr., of Woodstock, Virginia, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and love for his family. He was born on April 26, 1942, in Hamburg, Virginia, the son of Alfred Russell Sr. and Margaret Dellinger Heishman. He passed at home on May 24, 2026 with family by his side. In June of 1962, he married the love of his life, Genevieve Victoria Miller Heishman. Their marriage lasted nearly 64 years. Together, they built a life centered on family and raised two daughters, Lisa Ann Heishman (Wade Dellinger) and Susan Heishman Orndorff (William). He was a proud grandfather to Travis Pence (Lyndsi), Jared Pence, Zachary Orndorff, and Joshua Orndorff (Haylee), and a cherished great-grandfather to Bridger Russell Pence and Rylee Rose Orndorff. He is also survived by his sisters, Irene Downey and Nancy Showman, and his brother, Richard Heishman (Charlotte), along with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Harry Funkhouser; his sister, Evelyn Foltz, and brother-in-law, Donnie; his brothers-in-law, Jack Downey and John L. Showman; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Donnie Coffman; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Miller. Affectionately known as “Junior,” he dedicated 36 and a half years to the banking industry. He was also a lifelong member of St. John’s UCC in Hamburg, where he faithfully served on the Consistory and as treasurer for 36 years. Junior was a proud member of the first graduating class of Central High School in 1960. He enjoyed class reunions and maintained relationships with classmates through the years. Although he retired at the age of 60, he never slowed down. He found joy in staying busy and helping others. Whether lending a hand to family, assisting a neighbor, or making sure someone got to a medical appointment, he was always there. His quiet acts of kindness and steady willingness to serve defined the way he lived his life. Above all, he loved his family deeply and took great pride in their accomplishments. In his later years, his greatest joy came from spending time with his great-grandchildren, Bridger Russell and Rylee Rose. He will be remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at Valley Funeral Service in Bowman’s Crossing, Virginia, on Saturday, May 30, 2026. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a covered dish meal at the Conicville Fire Department following the service.
