Obituary for Daniel Lee “Danny” Strother Daniel Lee “Danny” Strother, 73, of Maurertown, VA, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, after complications from a stroke. Danny was born on April 21, 1953. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Heflin and her husband, Oscar Heflin, as well as his father, Daniel Strother. Danny spent more than 40 years working as a driller, a trade he took great pride in. Traveling throughout the valley, he could point to countless places where his hard work helped shape the landscape into what it is today, a quiet legacy etched into the land itself. He had a deep love for golden retrievers, treating each one as family. His beloved companion, Zoe, preceded him in death in 2025, shortly after Danny was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Danny’s care and devotion to his dogs reflected the generous and loving heart he carried for those closest to him. Danny found his greatest joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments, especially fishing trips with Wade and Chance, and time spent gathered with family and friends. Those moments brought him a deep and lasting happiness that defined who he was. The places Danny loved most now feel his absence in a profound way. Whether it was a stop at Tractor Supply, Friday nights at The Melting Pot for his favorite pizza, or time spent on a trip to the Spring House, he left a lasting impression everywhere he went. Danny had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for, and his love and kindness touched more lives than he ever realized. We will miss his “Dad jokes” you know the ones he laughed at even if no one else did, along with the steady stream of silly memes and texts that brightened our days. Those small, familiar moments will be missed more than words can express. Above all else, Danny’s greatest love was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He never hesitated to share his testimony, often speaking openly about his past so he could remind others that “even someone like him” could be loved and saved. Of all the things he would want us to remember, is that the message of grace and redemption mattered most to him. Danny leaves behind his stepchildren, Bucky Runion, Connie Runion, and Beth Runion, along with their families. He is also survived by those he loved as his own: Wade Jenkins and his wife, Nicole; their children, Chance Jenkins, RJ Daley, Shelby Baker, and Zach Baker and his wife, Kim; as well as Sheron Painter and her husband, Ryan, and their children, Hunter, Brylee, and Amelia Painter and his niece, Shannon “Sissy” Henry. Danny was preceded in death by his beloved “brother,” Charles David Jenkins, who we know was there to welcome him home in Heaven. Pallbearers will be Wade Jenkins, Zach Baker, Corey “Big Bird” Sibert, RJ Daley, Ron Jacobs, and Alfred Palmer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Strother and Steve Campbell. Danny will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love for his family and dogs, and most of all, his unwavering faith. His life stands as a testament to grace, redemption, and a love that never wavered. Danny was also a devoted supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and it is the family’s hope that his memory will live on through memorial contributions to this cause. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 6th from 6pm to 8pm at Heishman’s Funeral Home, located at 159 N Main St, Woodstock, VA 22664. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7th at 1:00pm located at Restoration Fellowship Church, located at 2128 John Marshall Hwy, Strasburg, VA 22657and led by Pastor Scott Priest.
