In Loving Memory of Dwight Allen Patton (1966–2025) With profound sadness and abiding love, we announce the passing of Dwight Allen Patton, age 58, a devoted father, dedicated craftsman, and lifelong lover of fast cars, fierce competition, and family. He passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy built with strength, skill, and heart . Born in Woodstock, Virginia on June 30, 1966, son of Doris Williams Hargis and the late Nelson Cleveland Patton, Dwight was a man who believed in hard work, loyalty, and living life full throttle. A master of masonry and co-owner of Patton’s Masonry, he spent decades shaping stone and brick with expert hands, creating lasting work that stands strong—just like the man himself. Whether it was a custom fireplace, the foundation of a family home, or a large commercial project, his craftsmanship was second to none. He is a 1984 graduate of Central High School where he created lifelong friendships and countless memories, it is there where he earned the nickname “Barney Bear.” When he wasn’t building with bricks, he was building bonds—with his two beloved sons, Tyler and Logen, who were the center of his world. He poured his heart into raising them and took great pride in being not just their father, but their coach, mentor, and biggest fan. One of his greatest joys was coaching youth football and basketball, where he inspired countless kids with his passion, discipline, and belief in teamwork. Dwight had a love for life that showed in everything he did. A drag racing enthusiast to his core, he lived for the roar of the engine and the thrill of the race. He found peace in the woods on hunting trips, cherished the precision of shooting matches, and never backed down from a good game of Texas Hold ‘Em or a challenge at the pool table. His competitive spirit made him a fierce player—and an even better storyteller afterward. Sundays were sacred during football season. A diehard Washington Redskins fan, Dwight rode every high and low of the season with unmatched loyalty and intensity. He bled burgundy and gold and loved nothing more than watching the game surrounded by family and friends. To know Dwight was to know a man who could make you laugh, lend you a hand, teach you something, or tell you exactly what he thought—with honesty, grit, and a glint in his eye. He was as dependable as the stone he worked with and as vibrant as the roar of a race car engine. He is survived by his sons, Tyler Ellis Patton and Logen Allen Patton, his former spouse and friend, Debbie Reid Patton, his loving mother Doris Williams Hargis, brother Duane Patton, half-brother Bobby Hargis, half-sister Stacey Haines and his extended family, as well as a wide circle of friends, teammates, and fellow craftsmen who will miss his presence, his wisdom, and his laughter. A celebration of Dwight’s life will be held on May 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren in New Market. Pastor Glenn Early will officiate. In honor of his legacy, the family encourages guests to share stories, wear their team colors, or shoot a game of pool in his name. He lived hard, worked proud, and loved deeply.
