Elizabeth "Bea" Lam Smoot

The staff of Heishman Funeral Home Inc., Heishman Funeral Service sends condolences to the family of Elizabeth "Bea" Lam Smoot. Elizabeth “Bea” Lam Smoot, 80, of Edinburg, VA, passed away Monday, July 21, 2025, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Church of Christ in Conicville. Pastor Stephanie Heishman Litten will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Andes Cemetery (now Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery) in Timberville, VA. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Elizabeth was born November 11, 1944, in Arlington, VA, daughter of the late Clarence William Lam, Sr. and Ava Andes Lam Tusing. She is a 1963 graduate of Central High School in Woodstock, VA and a 1967 graduate of Madison College where she earned a degree in education. Elizabeth later earned her Master of Education in Reading and a Master of Education in School Administration from James Madison University. She retired from Rockingham County Public Schools after many years of teaching various grade levels and subject areas. After retirement, Elizabeth was a partner with Winston Weatherholtz Construction. With a heart full of compassion and a mind rich with wisdom, Elizabeth inspired generations with her mind, her musical ability, her love of reading, her acts of kindness, and her unwavering faith in God. An aunt to many and friend to countless more, Elizabeth took tremendous pride in the lives of her nieces and nephews, celebrating their accomplishments and offering her constant encouragement and support. Her love for children and the elderly was boundless. Elizabeth is survived by her beloved partner and best friend, Winston Weatherholtz. She is also survived by her siblings, Betty Wolfe (Fred Windle), Helen Ward, Jean Copp (Jerry), Sue Rosenberger (Thomas), Arthur “Art” Tusing, Jr., and Diane Tusing. In addition, she is survived by 11 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews. One nephew, Ron Wolfe, and one great nephew, Ryan Wolfe, preceded her in death. Elizabeth is also survived by a special caregiver, Bonnie Weatherholtz, and special friend, Sherry Johnson. Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews: Lisa Nicosia, Sherry Miley, Tammy Barbato, Bobby Ward, Melissa Copp Foltz, John Lam, Todd Lam, Sarah Murphy, Amy Maphis, Bret Tusing, and Lerin Baker.
