Freddie Elwood George

Freddie Elwood George, 71 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 9, 1941 the son of Harry Irvin and Mamie May Smoot George. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly Wetzel George. His daughter Stephanie Shillingburg and her husband Dennis, his granddaughter Nancy Shillingburg, his grandson Kevin Shillingburg and his wife Jennifer and the apples of his eye, two great grandsons Shawn Wayne Shillingburg and Noah Alan Shillingburg Hodge. He is also survived by two brothers Leo George and his wife Beatrice and Ralph George and his wife Doris Ann, Sister in Law Sharon Coffman and husband Conway and Brothers in Law Bill Wetzel and wife Polly and Danny Wetzel and wife Ann. Freddie was also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn Burner and Brothers Alger George, Clifford George and John George. He was a member of the Columbia Furnace Brethren Church, a Chartered Life member of the Woodstock Volunteer Rescue Squad where he dedicated many years of his life helping others and Shenandoah Lodge IOOF. Freddie worked for Aileen company for many years early in his life, he also worked for the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office before he owned and operated Town & Country Food Store in Edinburg and most recently prior to retirement he operated George's Lawn Care. Throughout his life Freddie shared his work ethics with many young individuals in the community by working with them in the squad or by employing them in his businesses. He was always giving to the community as was his nature. Many lives have been touched by his ability to bring out the best in people and show them how to share their talents. Freddie also enjoyed working with everyone at Creekside Plain & Fancy, Inc, the family owned catering business. Creekside was his idea where he, Beverly & Stephanie started in the basement of a spider web covered building and has grown to the business he was so proud of today. He battled cancer for the past seven years with the determination unseen to many, he loved life and continued to enjoy hunting and game watching until his death. The birth of his great-grandsons assisted in giving him the determination to keep going when his body said stop. Family night will be held Tuesday, February 5th from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm at Dellinger Funeral Homes in Woodstock. A service to celebrate Freddie's life will be held Wednesday February 6th at 11am at St Luke Brethren Church. A private burial will be at a later date. Pallbearers will be Tony George, Mike George, Dennis George, Conway Coffman, Bill Wetzel, Danny Wetzel, Issac Clinedinst and Don McDowell. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present members of the Woodstock Volunteer Rescue Squad.
