The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of Gerald Walter "Butch" Emerick. Gerald Walter “Butch” Emerick, 79, of New Market, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at his home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market. Pastor Steven Creech will officiate. Burial with military honors by the United States Marines will follow in Emmanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Market. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the church. Mr. Emerick was born August 31, 1944, in New Market, son of the late Forrest Seekford and Esta Lee Golladay. He was a US Marine Corps veteran. He was stationed with the 2nd division at Camp Lejeune, serving during the Cuban Missile Crises and receiving the good conduct metal. He formerly worked for Moore Brothers for 4 years building bridges on Interstate 81 and retired from Kennametal in 2004 after 28 and half years. He was a member of Manor Memorial and the Methodist Men, the Valley Marines, New Market Eagles, and volunteered at the Food Pantry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia McNair Emerick; stepfather, John Walter Emerick; stepmother, Yvonne Seekford; brothers and sisters, John Frank Emerick, Debrah Emerick, John “Weasel” Emerick Jr., Peggy Lohr, and Donna Shafer. Butch is survived by his son, Sean Miller and wife Carla of New Market; sisters and brothers, Patricia Sager and Charles of Quicksburg, Arlene Ramsey of Danville, Jackie Emerick of Broadway, William “Bill” Emerick of Shenandoah, and Roger Emerick of Mt. Jackson; three grandchildren, Erica Schell and fiancé Cody, Hayden Miller and wife Amanda, and Aundrea Taylor and husband Jordan; three great grandchildren, Lily McCourt, Sean Mattock Miller, and Wrenley Taylor; and half-sisters, Phyllis Shifflett of New Market, Peggy Doty of Coventry, CT, and Janelle Seekford of Woodstock. Pallbearers will be David Hughes, Stacy McNair, Jeff Manning, Matt Estep, Rocky Sager and Brian Hepler. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Frye and Bob Estep. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Manor Memorial Methodist Men’s Group, 9320 N. Congress Street, New Market, VA 22844.
