James Patrick McCarthy

On June 21, 1958 in Newton, Ma. a special person was born. ""Jimmy"" as he was known by his family, was one of a kind. He spent his formative years with his family, living in many states and Italy as his father was in the U.S. Air Force. Later, the family eventually settled in Woodstock. Jimmy began his adult life by joining the U.S. Navy in 1976. He served for 4 yrs. as a Fuel Boom Operator on the USS Roanoke. After finishing his tour of duty he moved to Alabama to serve retired priests and nuns at a Catholic Retreat in the maintenance dept. While there for 2 1/2 years he proudly gave of himself wherever he was needed. Since returning to Woodstock, Jimmy worked for years at Wal-Mart as an overnight maintenance technician where he remained employed until the day His Lord called him home. James, (as he was called by his Wal-Mart family), took pride in doing his best for the store. Wherever Jim went or wherever he worked, he gave his ""all"" and became known for giving his ""best"". His best was not only having a strong work ethic, but he believed in loving the people around him and treating them the way Jesus would. He took a genuine interest in everyone he knew and was always ready to help out whenever a situation arose. His love for his family was always evident through his words and actions to them as well. Jimmy will be remembered by many for these special qualities, but mostly for his loyalty to the local Dunkin Donuts. Each day after his shift or before, he could be found sipping a cup of coffee while enjoying the company of those around him. The blessings of his time there were received by all, but especially by Jim. Sitting in the same seat each day held a warm place in his heart as these people had also become his family. Jimmy's life was an example of loving and valuing people while serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Jimmy/James has left this earth to return to his Heavenly Father who created him. He has heard the words ""well done though good and faithful servant."" He now waits for his family and friends to join him in spending eternity in Heaven where there is no pain or sorrow, just joy forevermore! Jimmy's family includes his mother, Rita L. McCarthy, who was called home in 1986; his father, Jere S. McCarthy and wife Bertha; two brothers, Joe McCarthy, and Tim McCarthy and family; two sisters, Mary Graham and family, and Rita Craig and family; three nieces, April John and family, Crystal Breen and family and Michelle Dugan and family, (which were considered by Jimmy as his immediate family); and many great nieces and nephews. Jim will be laid to rest with his mother at the National Cemetery in Cape Cod, Ma.
