The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of John Henry Easto. John Henry Easto, 90, of Woodstock, VA, passed peacefully from life to life eternal on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Visitation and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg, VA on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, with visitation starting at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock. John was born on May 10, 1934, to the late George and Charlotte Easto in Baltimore, MD. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, and is survived by his son, David Easto (Shari); daughter Linda Foster (Bart); daughter, Barbara Jacques (Art); and son, John Philip Easto (Lisa); 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. After graduating from Baltimore PolyTechnic Institute in 1953, John became a machinist apprentice at his older brother, George’s encouraging. Around 1956, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to work as a courier for the Pentagon in Washington, DC for 2 years. John and Nancy married on February 2, 1957. After serving in the Navy, John went to work as a machinist at Sweetheart Cup Company and moved the family to Baltimore. In 1966, John accepted a position at Stone Industrial Corporation in College Park, MD. That same year, the family moved to Burtonsville, MD where they raised four children and a garden. In the early 1970’s, John began night courses at the Montgomery County Community College, earning a Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Stone Industrial in 1999, allowing he and Nancy to design and build their dream house in Woodstock, VA. But his favorite roles, by far, were being a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and gardener! He had a green thumb and through the years cultivated a bounty of tomatoes, squash, peppers, peas, green beans, and corn. The children and grandchildren have fond memories of summer days spent canning and freezing vegetables and making grape jelly! If he wasn’t in the garden, chances are you could find him in the garage working on his 1931 Ford Model A: A hobby that kept him entertained for more than 40 years! Whether you knew him as John, Dad, or Pop-pop, in him you found a man of strong faith and deep love – one who was always willing to lend a hand, help solve a problem, and share a kind word!
