Mary Kearns Miller

Mary Kearns-Miller of Edinburg, Va passed away peacefully on June 25, 2017 after a lengthy battle with kidney disease. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard M Kearns Sr and by her second husband of 8 years, Russell F. Miller, Brothers Thomas "Junior" Bly, Robert "Red" Bly, Sister Nancy Reedy and a half brother Lloyd Palmer. Mary is survived by her five children Judy Friedman of Toms Brook, Richard (Oakley) Kearns of Chantilly Va, Dennis (Deigh) Kearns of Culpepper, Va Douglas Kearns of Woodbridge, Va and Cheryl Rowland of Mims, Fl, seven grandchildren Diana (Brandon) Wallace, Brandon Kearns, Aaron (Amber) Kearns, Ben Friedman, Brittany Rowland, Emily (Joey) Lopez, Meghan Kearns, five great grand children Levi Kearns, AJ Lopez, Kinleigh Kearns, Tekla Lopez and Conner Wallace, sister Alma (Don) Fadley, niece Betty Clark, sister in-law Nancy Bly and many more friends and extended family. Mary was born November 15, 1933 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Clara Palmer Bly. Growing up in the Toms Brook and Mt Olive areas. Mary worked at the Ernest and Mary Lee Keller dairy farm during high school. She soon met and married "Mel" Kearns and moved to Fairfax County and began her family. Once Mary's youngest child was in school, she started working for the Fairfax County Public School system starting in the cafeteria. She quickly moved to the transportation division and drove a school bus in the Falls Church and Oakton areas for many years eventually retiring in 1999 after 33 years of service. Mary returned to the Shenandoah Valley to spend her retirement years in her hometown. Mary was also an avid bowler and held several positions on the Washington DC Area Woman's Bowling Association including Director, Vice President and Delegate representing the Association for over 25 years at the Women's Bowling Association National convention. Mary held a high Bowling average, she was twice recognized for being one of the top ten women bowlers in the D.C. Area. Mary was inducted in to the Associations Hall of Fame in 1995 for her volunteer work and bowling accomplishments. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Valley Funeral Home, 14116 S Middle Road, Edinburg, Va 22824. Friday June 30, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va 22042 Funeral service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 1:00 pm at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va 22042 In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
