The staff of Heishman Funeral Home Inc., Heishman Funeral Service sends condolences to the family of Richard ( Jeff ) Campbell Richard Jefferson Campbell (better known as Jeff and to many, as “Pappy”), 81, of Mt. Jackson, Virginia, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by his loving wife, all his children, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held May 30, 2026, at the Strasburg Town Park (First Bank Pavilion) from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. All are welcome to join in honoring and remembering Jeff. Jeff was born January 6, 1945, in Culpeper, Virginia, the son of the late Virginia Whitesell. A hardworking and deeply respected member of the community, Jeff dedicated over 25 years of service to the Mt. Jackson Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Conicville Volunteer Fire Department. He was widely known throughout the Shenandoah Valley as a “drywall man,” building not only homes and businesses, but also a reputation for honesty, fairness, integrity, and pride in a job well done. Through Campbell’s Drywall, the family drywall and contracting business established in the Valley in 1972, Jeff created a legacy of hard work that continues through generations of his family. While he took great pride in his work and serving his community, nothing meant more to Jeff than his family. Being a husband, father, and Pappy was the role he cherished most, and he was never happier than when surrounded by those he loved. His family was his greatest accomplishment and the source of his deepest pride. Jeff will be remembered for his infectious laugh, charming personality, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He loved hunting, fishing, bluegrass and country music, cheering on the Washington Redskins, and following NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed sharing stories, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing with a Pepsi and Black Velvet. He is survived by his wife, Diane Hardy Campbell; children, Diana Elliott (Ron), Sandy Young (Mike), David Campbell, Jeffrey Campbell (Shannon), and Julie Pirkheim; siblings, Nicholas Capozio (Chris), Anthony Capozio, Danny Whitesell, Emily Robertson (Mike), and Donnie Reichert (Linda). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Campbell, Dawn Putman, Jason Tisinger (Sara), Kimberly McDonald (Steven), Rachel Tisinger, Timothy Campbell, Thomas Campbell (Kristen), Todd Campbell, Emily Campbell, Jefferson Campbell, Kirsten Campbell Monhait (Nichole), Nicolas Campbell (Maria), Dylan Campbell, Alec Campbell (Emily), Elliott Hunter, Tiffany Bucklew, Ashley Bucklew, Nicholas Pirkheim, Breaunna Pirkheim, Tyler Pirkheim, and Lilly Pirkheim. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Molley Campbell, Jessica Funk, Stevie Putman, Iris Putman, Ryan Putman, Ally Tisinger, Flynn Tisinger, Penny Tisinger, Everett Tisinger, Virginia McDonald, Hattie McDonald, Dixie McDonald, Callie McDonald, Lewis McDonald, Luna Tisinger, Eliana Tisinger, Blake Campbell, Jude Monhait, Isabella Campbell, Samuel Campbell, Alina Campbell, Creed Campbell, Emma Williams, Chasity Runion, Brysonn Stoneburner, Brentley Stoneburner, Alayna Bucklew, Elianna Bucklew, and Denver Halterman, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and community members who loved him dearly.
