Robert (Bob) John Gibson

The staff of Heishman Funeral Home Inc., Heishman Funeral Service sends condolences to the family of Robert (Bob) John Gibson Robert (Bob) J Gibson was born on October 16th, 1938, in Paterson, New Jersey. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on June 14th, 2026. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock. Pastor Nathan Robinson will officiate. Robert was one of three children to parents John and Helen Gibson. He was an athlete throughout his early years of life and met the love of his life, Joan Gibson, when she was enamored by the local football star. Robert graduated from Central High School in Paterson, New Jersey and his career through Coleman Microwave brought him down to Virginia with his wife and four children in 1977. Robert was a lifelong New York Yankees, New York Giants and River Bandits fan. He was constantly watching games and attending sporting events. In addition, you could always find him spending time outside. Whether that was work in his yard, fishing with his grandkids, or grilling for his family, he was the epitome of an outdoorsmen. Everyone in Woodstock knew Bob for his daily walks to Sheetz to grab his morning coffee and the paper. Robert was an active member (and past president) of the Lion’s club for over forty years. He was also a Council member, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and more recently, a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Bob and Joan were blessed with a large, active friend group and had the privilege of traveling with them to a multitude of places, including 20+ years in Aruba. Robert was loved by many and loved fiercely. He was patient, kind, and known for his quiet, calm presence and his loyalty to the ones he loved. Despite working multiple jobs in his early years of parenthood, he was a dedicated father who always provided for his family. He taught all of his children how to drive and more importantly, how to be loving parents. His devotion to his wife and family was admirable and something we all hope to aspire towards. He gave his whole heart to all twelve of his grandchildren and eleven of his great grandchildren. As a grandfather, poppa attended every sporting event, every birth, every celebration and every birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Gibson and his children Robin Milstead and Robert (Bobby) Gibson. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joan Gibson. He is also survived by his children Suzanne Fadeley (Tony Fadeley) and Sharon Tucker (Brian Tucker), as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
