The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of Rosemarie Goetz. Rosemarie Goetz, 88, of Edinburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her home on July 20, 2024. A memorial mass will be held Friday, August 16, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 315 N. Main Street, Woodstock, VA 22664. A celebration of life will immediately follow in Handley Hall. Born on April 15, 1936, in Zusenhofen, Germany, Rosemarie brought with her the rich traditions of her homeland when she moved to the United States in 1954. It wasn’t long before she planted her roots deeply into the American soil, much like the flowers and vegetables she grew with such care in her garden. Known for her green thumb, Rosemarie could coax life from even the most stubborn patch of earth, turning her backyard into a vibrant, fragrant paradise that was the envy of the neighborhood. Her love for gardening was matched only by her passion for baking. Rosemarie’s kitchen was always warm with the aroma of fresh bread and pastries, a testament to her belief that the best way to someone's heart was through a well-prepared meal. No gathering was complete without her signature dishes and, of course, a generous splash of schnapps to toast the good times. Her home was a haven for friends and family alike, where laughter echoed through the halls, and no one ever left hungry or without a smile. Rosemarie worked alongside her beloved husband of 61 years, Manfred "Manny" Goetz, in the construction business, where together they built not just homes, but a legacy of hard work and devotion. After Manny’s passing, she continued to honor his memory by nurturing the life they had created together, both in their family and in the community. She leaves behind five children who carry on her spirit of love and resilience: Manny Goetz and wife Linda of Livingston, Montana; Alice Spears and husband Danny of Fairfax, Virginia; Brigitte Smith and husband Tom of Edinburg, Virginia; Daniel Goetz of Statesville, North Carolina; and Rosey Goetz of Edinburg, Virginia. She is also survived by three sisters, Ursula Watson of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Olga Steimel and Gisela Scheibel, both of Germany; along with 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and her beloved dogs, Gustav and Rommel. Rosemarie, more commonly known as "Oma", will be greatly missed by all those that knew her. Rosemarie’s legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, Mt. Jackson Fire and Rescue, or Edinburg Fire Department.
