Ruby Dellinger Hawkins

Ruby Dellinger Hawkins, 92, of Edinburg, passed away Thursday, February 18 2016 at Greenfield Senior Living in Woodstock. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Church of Christ in Conicville. Pastors Tom Arner and Don Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Hawkins was born January 8, 1924 in Conicville, daughter of the late Mantonia Dellinger and Gertie Mumaw Dellinger. She graduated from Triplett High School in Mt. Jackson in 1941 and Palmer's Business College in Woodstock in 1943. She joined the church October 1, 1934 at the age of 10 years old and was a gifted organist and pianist who used her talents to share her love for music, playing the organ and piano and was choir director for 75 years. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Christ U.C.C. in Conicville and served on the consistory, served several years as secretary and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a charter member of the Church Women's Guild and served in different offices and was treasurer for 54 years. She was a member of the 4-H, Edinburg VFW and Conicville Home Demonstration Club. She worked at American Viscose Plant in Front Royal, Woodstock Coat Manufacturing, Bowman Apple Products for 20 years and retired from Woodstock Aileen Inc. after 22 years in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Hawkins Sr. who passed away on June 8, 1973 at the age of 48; sister, Goldie Tisinger and three brothers Marvin T. Dellinger, Clyde E. Dellinger and Marshall Dellinger who was killed in World War II. Ruby is survived by her sons and daughter, Robert D. Hawkins Jr. and wife Rosa of Winchester, Brenda H. Hiner and husband Douglas of Mt. Sidney, and Donald E. Dellinger and wife Linda of Edinburg; sister, Shirley Leake of Woodstock; foster brother, Wayne Wetzel and wife Helen of Woodstock; seven grandchildren, Darcy Dellinger and wife Melissa, Denise Dellinger and husband Timothy, Travis Dellinger and wife Rania, Natalie R. Hiner, Valeria A. Hiner, Nicole H. Phenneger and Jenna M. Hawkins; five great grandchildren, Brice Dellinger, Phoenix Dellinger, Dalton Robinson, Ethan Dellinger and Forrest Dellinger and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Darcy Dellinger, Travis Dellinger, Ethan Dellinger, Forrest Dellinger, Timothy Dellinger and Dalton Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Ross and Donald Tisinger. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 968, Mt. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
