Sara Kay Tinsley McCallum

The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of Sara Kay Tinsley McCallum. Sara Kay Tinsley McCallum, 79, of Woodstock, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00am at First Baptist Church in Woodstock. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Doug Frazier will officiate. Burial will be held at Centre Presbyterian Church in Maxton, NC at a later date. There will be no services held in North Carolina. Mrs. McCallum was born August 20, 1944, in Spartanburg, SC, daughter of the late Leon H. and Sara Dendy Tinsley. She graduated from Spartanburg High School, and attended Louisburg College in Louisburg, NC and Montreat- Anderson College in Montreat, NC. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Woodstock serving on the kitchen committee and was the chairman of the flower committee. She would also decorate the fellowship hall and outside of the church all seasons of the year. She was an active member of the Prime Times of which she had many friends. She volunteered at Jefferson Elementary School in Jefferson, SC. She was a former member of Kings Mountain, NC garden club, Pageland, SC garden club, Rockingham NC garden club, SC garden club, and was an active member of the Woodstock Garden Club. She is preceded in death by her sister, Timi Gale Tinsley Caldwell. Sara is survived by her husband, Joseph Alexander McCallum whom she married on June 15, 1968. The couple just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this past June. She was the love of his life. Also surviving are their children, Joseph Thompson McCallun II and wife, Julia Martin McCallum of Rockhill, SC, Lee Ann McCallum and partner, Adrian Brigido of Keswick, VA; sister, Carol Hue of Greensboro, NC; brother, Steve Tinsley and wife, Karen of Charlotte NC; and three grandchildren, Claire McCallum, Alexander Brigido-McCallum, and Itzel Kay Brigido-McCallum. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sara’s Sunday School group at First Baptist Church and the Woodstock Garden Club. Kay was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, and a very good friend to anyone that needed her. She was the rock of the family, raising Joseph and Lee Ann as well as her two youngest grandkids. She had a beautiful voice, was very creative, and enjoyed sketching things out. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
