The staff at Heishman Funeral Home, Inc. send condolences to the family of Stanley J Couvillon Couvillon, Stanley Joseph Jr (Stan) age 84 of Mt Jackson, VA passed away peacefully and with his sons at his side Wednesday, April 22, 2026, after a sudden illness in memory care. Stan was born May 9, 1941 in Bandera County Texas to the late Stanley and Marie (Sholars) Couvillon. Stan was preceded in death by his soul mate and loving wife of over 57 years Vicki (Green) Couvillon in 2021 and older sister Laverne of Bandera, TX. Stan is survived by his younger sister Deborah Couvillon of Red Rock, TX, son Steve (widower of Jan) Couvillon of Tipp City, OH and son William (Maria) Couvillon of Gainesville, VA. He also leaves 4 grandchildren that he and Vicki loved deeply: Austin (Athens, OH), Emily (Upper Arlington, OH), Kaitlyn (Gainesville, VA) and Christian (Gainesville, VA). All survivors have very fond memories of Stan and Vicki’s beloved Mt Jackson retirement home with the beautiful view and nearly 20 years of great family gatherings and grandchildren entertainment. Stan grew up mostly in Houston, TX where he met and became high school sweethearts with Vicki. After high school graduation, he attended Texas A&M (College back then – big point for him as proud 1963 Engineering Alum) where he eventually earned the first Master’s degree in the family. Stan and Vicki married in 1964 during Grad School and then moved back to Houston to settle down. In Houston, he went to work for Factory Insurance Association (FIA) and in 1972 was promoted to the Hartford, CT HQ of what later became Industrial Risk Insurers (IRI). He worked at IRI and traveled the world until his 1997 retirement as the VP of Engineering. During that time of raising his family in Granby, CT, he was a 10yr scoutmaster of troop 127, fixer / tinkerer of many projects (Stan was ALWAYS busy) and a leader to many. He was also the king of many one liners that we will always remember as well as an excellent macramé and stained glass artist. In retirement to Mt Jackson, VA (a location they always admired on annual drives from CT to TX and reasonably near their sons), he was active in the Knights at St. John Bosco Catholic Church (Woodstock), the Mt Jackson Library and several local wineries when not travelling around the eastern US in series of RV’s. A funeral rite for Stan will be included in the 6:00p May 18, 2026 daily mass at St John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock, VA. There will be a private burial of his remains next to his beloved Vicki at Mt Jackson Cemetery directly following the mass. His family suggests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Stan’s honor to please consider the Shenandoah County Library Foundation (reference Mt Jackson).
