The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. send condolences to the family of Donald Irvin Sherman Sr. Donald Irvin Sherman Sr., 84, of Woodstock, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Church of the Brethren in Woodstock. Pastor George Bowers will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. He was born July 14, 1937, in Woodstock, son of the late Harry Milton Sherman Sr. and Anna Peer Sherman. He was formerly employed at High’s Ice Cream Plant in Maryland, Richard Hottle Construction and retired after 31 years from John Manville. He was a member of Antioch Church of the Brethren where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee, on the special music committee and helped out in the kitchen for church functions. He was a member of Mt. View Bowling League and the singing group “Lion of Judah.” He also performed special music at Antioch as well as at many other churches and nursing homes. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Virginia Dickerson Sherman whom he married on July 28, 1962; three children, Donald I. Sherman Jr. and wife Stephanie of Woodstock, Eddie F. Sherman and wife Glenda of Edinburg and Rhonda Lynn Shelton and husband Frank of Woodstock; sister, Betty Sherman of Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren Stephen Sherman and wife Heather, Whitney Silveira and husband Lucas, Austin Sherman and wife Linnea, Josh Sherman, Nicole Cline and husband Zach, Autumn Shelton and Alivia Shelton; four great grandchildren, Miles Sherman, Felix Sherman, Riley Cline and Rynley Cline and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Harry Sherman Jr., Jack Sherman, Milton Sherman, Margaret Kibler, Nancy Hottle, Charles Sherman, Dickie Sherman, and Anna Marshall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Antioch Church of the Brethren Building Fund. Don loved helping out at church functions, bowling, and had a special love for music. He loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
