Elva Habron Hockman, 91, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at her home in Maurertown, VA surrounded by her family. She was born in Saint Davids Church, VA on February 4, 1930, and was the daughter of Lehman and Isabelle Habron. Elva was a member of the Lutheran Church in Fort Valley and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1948. After working many years with her husband, Archie on the family farm, she worked for Shenandoah County Public Schools as a cafeteria manager until she retired. Elva enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and was well known for her baked bread. She loved telling stories about her life in Fort Valley as a child with her brothers. Elva is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Arch F. Hockman, Jr, her brothers, Everette Habron and Ivan Habron, her sister-in-law, Ruby Habron and Helen Hockman, and brothers-in-law Larry and William Hockman. Survivors include her son, Michael A. Hockman and fiance’ Helen Cook, her daughter and son-in-law Patricia Hockman-Hobbs and Dennis Hobbs, her sisters-in-law June Hockman and Phyllis Habron; five grandchildren, Cindy and Terry Linster of Strasburg, Pam and Scotty Miller of Wardensville, WV, Dee and Dale Sherman of Maurertown, Amy Hodson of Woodstock, and Leana Cook of Maurertown; ten great grandchildren, four great greatgrandchildren; many wonderful and loving nieces and nephews; her special friend and caregiver, Shirley Patton, and the Zion Church Community of friends. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021, 11:00 AM at Zion Christian Church Cemetery, Maurertown, VA by Pastor Joe Fleming, with masks and social distancing practices. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Blue Ridge Hospice staff for their comforting and loving care given to Elva in her final days.
