Houston W. "Hoot" Crawford

December 1, 1933 - March 7, 2021

Houston W. “Hoot” Crawford Sr., 87, of Woodstock, was born on December 1, 1933 and went home to be with The Lord on March 7, 2021. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren, 20910 Senedo Road, Edinburg, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. Chip Crawford will officiate. Burial will follow in Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock. He loved his family and the times they shared together. After more than 50 years in the profession, he retired from being a drywall contractor having worked with his brothers, John and Darrell, and then with his son, Chip. He was a member of the bluegrass band, “The Brookeville Hillbillies,” in the 1960s-70s where he played the mandolin, sang tenor and was known for his rendition of “Muleskinner Blues.” He loved serving the Lord over the years in gospel music ministry with his family as well as the Shenandoah County based group, “Lion of Judah.” He loved to hunt with his son and nephews and was on a bowling league for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Woodstock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Hallie Crawford and all but one of his 10 siblings. His beloved wife of 63 years, Chris, passed just 10 months ago. What a reunion that must have been! He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Cathie Rollison (George) of Waterford, Lori Coe (fiancé Jimmy Copenhaver, Sr.) of St. Luke and Chip Crawford (Deb) of Woodstock. Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one sister, Dinah Gilliam, of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for the kind care they gave him. Pallbearers will be Butch Crawford, Darold (Weezer) Crawford, Shane Crawford, Christopher Crawford, Austin Baker, and Jason Teach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Edinburg VFW, 100 Veterans Way, Edinburg, VA 22824. Online condolences may be left at www.valleyfs.com Arrangements by Heishman Funeral Home, Valley Funeral Service Branch, Edinburg.
