Jean M. Funkhouser

July 3, 1932 - May 2, 2022

The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of Jean M. Funkhouser. Jean M. Funkhouser, 89 of Edinburg passed away May 2, 2022, at her home. A funeral service will be held Saturday May 7, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jerome, VA. Pastor Robin Ferree will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ms. Funkhouser was born July 3, 1932, in Jerome, Va., daughter of Joby T. Miller and Sarah Miller. She was a graduate of Triplett High School. Ms. Funkhouser retired from McDonalds where she was an assistant manager and worked for 20 years. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Falls Church, VA where she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Jerome, VA where she was active in the sewing circle and on the fellowship committee. She also served on the church council. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Funkhouser whom she married on April 23, 1952. Ms. Funkhouser is survived by her children, Alan Funkhouser (Kathy), Michael Funkhouser (Venie), Kevin Funkhouser (Suzanne), Susan Bell (Rod); grandchildren, Damian, Andrew, and Benjamin Bell, Christian Overton, Matthew, Stefan, Kristina, Mindy, and Andrew Funkhouser, Ben Clem; great grandchildren, Olivia and Audrey Overton, Emily Bell, Trevor Moton, Rylan and Declan Bell, Grayson, Owen, and Brendan Bell, Cara and Zoey Funkhouser, Abel Clem. Ms. Funkhouser provided comfort and care to many members of the Jerome community. She volunteered in numerous organizations including FCPS and SCPS where she served as a chaperone, room mother and clinic aid. She also served as a scout leader. Jean enjoyed gardening, canning, and loved hummingbirds. Pallbearers will be Stefan Funkhouser, Matt Funkhouser, Trevor Moton, Charles Moton, Christian Overton and Andrew Bell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 4109 Jerome Rd. Edinburg, VA 22824.
