Marian Elizabeth Emswiller Penton, 89, of Woodstock VA passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Valley Funeral Service in Bowman’s Crossing. Pastor Freddie Helsley will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 13, 2021, from 6-8p.m. at the funeral home. Marian was born on May 23, 1932, in Washington DC. She was the daughter to Fred R. and Annie E. McClanahan Emswiller. She was a graduate of Woodstock High School, Class of 1949. A graduate of Palmer’s Business School, Class of 1950. Upon graduation she worked at “The Pentagon” as an ASA and NSA Cryptographer, with top secret clearance. After moving back to Woodstock she worked for the Production and Marketing Association (PMA). She then went to work as the Administrator of Susan B Miller Nursing Home for 28 years until retirement. She was also a member of the Virginia Health Care Association while working at the Nursing home. She was a volunteer for the Woodstock Library, and was an avid reader. She was a docent at the Woodstock Museum. Marian was a member of the Shenandoah County Republican Women Association and served as president for a number of years. She enjoyed Square Dancing; she was in the Shenco Benders and then was in the Just 4 Fun Dancers. Marian was a member of the Woodstock/Edinburg Senior Fellowship serving as the Treasurer and a member of the First Baptist Church Prime Timers. At the age of nine she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Washington D.C. Brethren Church. Marian is survived by her son Kevin E. Foltz and wife Anita of Edinburg. One Granddaughter, Atina M. Foltz and two Great-grandchildren: Scott A. Coffman Jr. and Rachel M. Coffman of Edinburg. One Sister Vickie L. Helsley and husband Freddie of Woodstock. Nieces and Nephews: Martin Emswiller (Kim), Lynn Davis, Erica Thomas (Brian), Carla Boardman, Matthew Helsley (Kay) and Andrew Helsley, with many great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She also had several step children. Proceeded in death by her Parents, Husband Joseph Penton, Brother Fred R Emswiller Jr., Sister Sarah Ann Williams, Nephew Mitchell R. Emswiller and a Great Niece Stephanie Davis. Pallbearers will be Scott Coffman Sr., Scott Coffman Jr., Rachel Coffman, Matthew Helsley, Andrew Helsley, and Steve Hedrick. We would also like to thank the caregivers at Memory Lane for taking great care of Marian and making her last few months a pleasure.
