Nelson Clifford Cook, 76, of Woodstock, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m. (following COVID guidelines) at St. Luke Brethren Church. Pastors Freddie Helsley and Shawn Graber will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may sign the guest book at Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg Friday from 9-5. Mr. Cook was born April 15, 1944 in St. Luke, son of the late Carl Clifford and Thelma George Cook. He was a 1963 graduate of Central High School and a lifetime dairy and beef farmer. He owned and operated Meadowview Dairy Farm and was a lifetime member of St. Luke Brethren church where he sang in the choir and was a deacon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Cook. He is survived by his wife, Karen Heishman Cook whom he married on August 28, 1970; three daughters, Becky Waybright (James) of Woodstock, Kathy Bushong (Aaron) of Woodstock and Carey Cook (Tony) of Mt. Jackson; two brothers, Larry Cook (Judy) of Woodstock, and Dwight Cook (Karen) of Delaware; two grandchildren, Luke and Grace Bushong. Pallbearers will be Sam Heishman, Marty Helsley, Jason Strosnider, Tony George, Larry Richard and Clay Cook. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke Brethren Church Building Fund, 3250 Back Road, Woodstock, VA 22664 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, #405, Winchester, VA 22601. Nelson loved to deer hunt, riding his John Deere Tractors, gardening, raising his cattle and The New York Yankees. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
