Ralph Franklin “Frankie” Whittington, 81, of Toms Brook, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019, at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his family. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 23 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toms Brook. Pastor Nathan Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Gardens in Woodstock. The family will receive friends Friday, February 22 from 6-8 p.m. at the church. He was born May 27, 1937, in Mt. Olive son of the late Grover M. “Dick” Whittington and Sally Mae Bowers Whittington. He was a 1955 graduate of Toms Brook High School and retired from Agritech after 35 years. He was known for his welding and being a community farmer. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir and had served on the council and was a member of Maur-Brook-Olive Ruritan Club. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Patsy Fravel Whittington whom he married on July 21, 1957; son, Charles T. Whittington and wife BJ of Toms Brook; brother, Father Kenneth Lee Whittington of Morganton, NC; granddaughter, Beth C. Ray and husband Josh of Woodstock and two very special great-granddaughters, Taylor N. Ray and Brooke A. Ray who were the “apples of his eye”. Pallbearers will be Dennis Fravel, Randy Jones, Phil Fauber, Carroll Fravel, Josh Ray, and Bobby Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Rhodes Jr., Raymond Elbon, Bill Sibert, Gary Richard, Greg Jones, and Wayne Borden In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 104, Toms Brook, VA 22660 or American Cancer Society, 420 Neff Avenue, Ste.210, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. Frankie loved to hunt and was a great outdoorsman. He was a master game chef and enjoyed cooking for the Good Ole Boys Hunt Club. He was well known for his welding talents and enjoyed raising Angus calves. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
