Roy Kenneth Harris

January 9, 1933 - January 27, 2021

Roy Kenneth Harris, 88, of Mt Jackson, VA passed away Wednesday morning at Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital, Woodstock, VA. Roy was born on January 9, 1933 in the Walkers Chapel community of Mt. Jackson to Mamie and James Harris. He was a brother to James Jr., Millie, Marie, Bonnie, and Raymond. He was an active-duty Army veteran of the Korean War, serving between 1953-1955. Roy married Nancy L. Kibler on 05/25/1957. They had two children, Donna and Marty Harris. Roy attended Triplett High School in Mt. Jackson, was a life-long member of the Walkers Chapel Church, and an avid outdoorsman and musician. He loved singing and playing guitar and saxophone in numerous country and rock bands throughout his adult life, performing with countless talented musicians in a variety of venues and events throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. He had the opportunity to accompany such notable performers as Margo Smith, the late Patsy Cline, and Jimmy Dean. Roy was very active in his community until the time of his death. He served on and was a loyal member of the Shenandoah County Republican Committee for decades, an active and dedicated member of the Mt. Jackson Lions Club, the American Legion, and a life-long member of the Mt. Jackson Moose Lodge. Roy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud American patriot. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy; his son, Marty (Kathleen); three grandchildren, Tina Luft (Clayton), Natalie Harris, and Nathan Harris; two sisters, Millie Harris and Bonnie Harris Pugh; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Valley Funeral Service, 14116 South Middle Road in Edinburg, VA. The family will receive visitors immediately before the service from 1:00-2:00 (following COVID guidelines.) Graveside services will be held at the Sunset View Memorial Garden, Woodstock, VA. Donations honoring Roy can be made to the Mt. Jackson Lion’s Club (P.O. Box 146, Mt. Jackson, VA 22842).
