Ruby Clem Swartz, of Fort Valley, Virginia, passed away at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital on April 5, 2022, at the age of 90. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10th, from 2:00 until 3:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm at Valley Funeral Service, located at Bowmans Crossing. Pastor John Senters and Pastor Sherry Waddell will be officiating. Burial will be private. Ruby was the first child born to the late Brucie Rinker and Raymond Lee Clem and was assisted into this world by her grandmother “Mollie” Rinker, who was a local midwife. She was of the Lutheran faith and attended Oak Level Methodist Church in Fort Valley. Ruby graduated in 1949 from Edinburg High School and married Charles “Jim” Swartz in 1951, recently celebrating 70 years of marriage! She retired as a bookkeeper from The Fun Shop in Middleburg, Virginia in 1990 after working there for 27 years. Ruby was a charter member and past president of the Middleburg Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, president of the Woodstock-Edinburg Fellowship Club, co-captain of the Relay For Life team, The ‘Ole Ladies’ Brigade, and a life member of the VFW Post 2447 Ladies Auxiliary. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Everett Munch; and her sisters, Betty Bernard, Janet Gess, Treva Clinedinst, and Linda Fitchett. Ruby is survived by her husband, Jim Swartz; her daughter, Adina McInturff and her husband Gary of Fort Valley; her daughter, Paula Gleaton and her husband John of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her son, Michael Swartz of Hampshire County, West Virginia; a step-grandson, Andrew Miller of Winchester, Virginia; and a furball named Kitty. She is also survived by a sister, Reva Buchanan of Fort Valley; a brother, Leon Clem and his wife Jan of Woodstock; sisters-in-law, Claudette Munch of Woodstock, Helen Mowery of Prescott, Arizona, Betty Bowers of Pulaski, Virginia, Delores Swartz of Melbourne, Florida, Katrena Swartz of Edinburg; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews too numerous to mention.
