Denise June Jackson Fularz Skaggs

The staff of Heishman Funeral Home sends condolences to the family of Mrs. Skaggs. Denise June Jackson Fularz Skaggs, 79, of Fort Valley, VA, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 22, 1944, in Natrona Heights, PA, the daughter of the late Leonard Lewis Jackson Sr and Olive June Markovic Jackson of Natrona, PA. Denise attended St Mathias Slovak Catholic School in Natrona, PA, and graduated from Har Brack High School, Natrona Heights, PA. She worked full-time while attending classes at Marymount University and later transferred to Park University where she received her Business Management Degree. She worked full-time in the laboratory at Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital for 38 years and eventually became the lab director. At the same time, she worked for 20 years in the laboratory at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Family was important to Denise, and she loved spending time with them. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and recently became a proud great grandmother. She especially enjoyed having large family picnics at her home, which was affectionally known as “The Cabin”. Many wonderful memories were made with her there. Denise would sit in her favorite chair looking out of the window at the beautiful mountains that surrounded her home. This is where she prayed the daily rosary and took solace in knowing the Lord was watching over her. Denise was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock and attended services at White Chapel Methodist Church in Fort Valley. Denise's kindness over the years helped so many of her family and friends. She demonstrated this by welcoming everyone into her home. She was passionate about giving back to her community and regularly supported her favorite charities. Additionally, there was always a soft spot in Denise's heart for her pets. Her home was never without a dog, or two, or three, as well as a few cats. Denise's memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends and those who were honored to know her. Denise was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Fularz. She is survived by her second husband, Edward Skaggs of Fort Valley, VA; son, Scott Fularz of Fort Valley, VA; daughter, Lynn Fularz Hoyle and husband David of Springfield, VA; step son, Jesse Skaggs and wife Angela of AZ; step daughter Jennifer Paulachok and husband Phillip of DE; two sisters, Pamela Foltz and Laure King both of Fort Valley, VA; brother, Leonard Jackson Jr., of PA., grandson, Joshua Hoyle, step grandchildren, Vanessa Long, Nicholas Paulachok, Mason Skaggs and Serena Skaggs and a step great grandson, Reese Long. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Valley Funeral Chapel/Heishman Funeral Service, located at 14116 S Middle Rd, Edinburg, VA 22824. The funeral mass will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 315 N Main St, Woodstock, VA 22664, followed by a burial at Panorama Memorial Gardens, 4917 Strasburg Rd, Strasburg, VA 22657. A reception will be held at Fort Valley Fire Department, 7088 Fort Valley Rd, Fort Valley, VA, 22652.
