Evelyn "Evie" Erdle Eisenhard

The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of Evelyn "Evie" Erdle Eisenhard. Evelyn “Evie” Erdle Eisenhard (92) passed away peacefully on December 3, 2022, at Ashby Ponds Senior Living Community in Ashburn, Virginia. Born in Silver Creek, New York on July 3, 1930, the daughter of the late Ethel (Cogswell) and Robert N. Erdle, Evie graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1948. Always proud of her academic achievements, Evie graduated salutatorian with a scholastic average of 91% in Regents subjects and was also the vice president of the National Honor Society and Tri-H-Y clubs, editor of the yearbook, and leader in various other student organizations. She went on to receive her B.A. with a major in history and a minor in English and a M.A. in history from the State University of New York, New York State College for Teachers in Albany, New York. Evie taught at Ellicottville Central School in Ellicottville, New York, and then Hoosac Valley Central School in Schaghticoke, New York until June 1955. While at “Albany” she met her future husband Bob Eisenhard, while he was attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, through the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. They were married in Silver Creek, New York on August 29, 1954. After raising four children, Evie returned to the college scene at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia to receive her certification in Library Science in 1978. She went on to be an assistant librarian in two Fairfax County intermediate schools and then landed the assistant librarian position at Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia where she worked until retiring in 1993. Evie, along with her husband Bob, was very active in the community and church. Together they led bible study and mission groups at Arlington Church of the Brethren in Arlington, Virginia and St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Burke, Virginia where Evie was a member of the Frances Allen UMW Circle. She was engaged in work with the local Kings Park Civic Association, led her daughters’ Camp Fire Girls group, and coached their softball team. She and Bob also worked as election officials at the local polling place. For many years she and Bob enjoyed renovating and spending time at “Oakfield,” their turn-of-the-century log farmhouse in Virginia’s Fort Valley. She also enjoyed several cross-country family camping trips and numerous Elderhostel educational adventures, cruises, and several trips to Europe with Bob. Even in retirement living at Ashby Ponds Evie led a book club, and along with Bob, created and ran a welcome committee for new residents. Anyone who knew her would agree Evie was no less than a force of nature. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Evie was predeceased by her husband Bob, and her siblings: Julia Mathews, Margery Parsons, Warren Erdle, Dean Erdle and Carolyn Alfonso Catrone. She is survived by her four children, Garth Eisenhard (Paula Brantner) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Cheryl O’Brien of Ashburn, Virginia, Julie Cummings (Joe) of Valrico, Florida, and Jeff Eisenhard (Jennifer) of Reston, Virginia. She was affectionately known as Grammy to her three grandchildren, Cory Eisenhard, Erin Eisenhard, and Olivia O’Brien. A celebration of Evie and Bob’s life will be held at a later date. Evie will be laid to rest at Charles Emerson Walters Cemetery in Fort Valley, Virginia.
