James Timothy "Tim" Frye

The staff of Heishman Funeral Home/Valley Funeral Service sends condolences to the family of Mr. James Timothy "Tim" Frye. James Timothy “Tim” Frye, born in Arlington, VA on August 16, 1949, passed away at home on February 7, 2026 at the age of 76. To say him leaving us all is a loss is an understatement. Tim was a strong man from the start. He grew up helping to take care of everyone in his family, and he never lost the desire to do so. He was enlisted in the United States Army from June 1969 to January 1972. Tim served honorably as 82nd Airborne and a helicopter crew chief. For Tim, his military service was always a huge accomplishment and a point of pride and honor. He even won best PT award in his basic training class! After Tim's Army service, he found a job driving a bus for DC Transit in Washington, DC. This is where he met, the instant-upon-seeing her love of his life, Dagmar Haggblom, after she tripped walking up the stairs getting on the bus wearing her little yellow dress. They were married on February 29, 1976 at Walker's Chapel in Mt. Jackson, VA. Their love was a love for the ages. Tim and Dagmar shared 53 years of unequivocal love, partnership, and solidarity while raising three very talented and wonderful children: Charlotte Frye, an oncology veterinary technician in Austin, Tx; Jennifer Frye, an honorably previous serving officer in the United States Coast Guard and a Holtzman Propane delivery driver in New Market, Va; and Travis Frye, a project manager for construction across California. Knowing Tim was to absolutely love him. With one look, if you messed up, he could set you on the straight and narrow, but one ask for help would have him there in an instant, with a reminder to always keep your sense of humor. Tim's friends and neighbors were able to witness the wealth of talents and creativity he possessed. From stone masonry, to welding, to mechanics and woodworking, his creations have brought joy to many. There won't ever be enough trout stocked to not be missing him standing there fishing with you, maybe sipping an Old Milwaukee, and catching more than you. Tim was the man you could always count on no matter what and he would want you all to know...it was one hell of a ride. Tim is survived by his wife, Dagmar Joy Frye, daughters Charlotte Elizabeth Frye and Jennifer Leigh Frye, son James Travis Frye, beloved grandson and son to Charlotte, Dylan Thelonious Glikman, and brothers Luther Ray Frye, Lawrence David Frye, and Jacob Eugene Frye. Tim's family extends their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Sentara RMH, First Choice Hospice and the transport team for not only doing their job but going above and beyond. In lieu of flowers, go catch a trout, fry it up good, and have a good dinner in Tim's honor. Airborne!
