Neva Joy Strosnider

The staff at Heishman Funeral Home Inc. sends condolences to the family of Neva Joy Strosnider. Neva Joy Strosnider, 88, of Zepp passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9, at 11a at Antioch Church of the Brethren, Senedo Road, Woodstock, VA. Pastor Wayne Racey will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Antioch. Neva was born on April 1, 1935, at her family home in Star Tannery, daughter of the late Curtis and Indola ‘Penny’ McIlwee. On March 31, 1952, she married Courtney Allen Strosnider and they resided in Zepp together until August 10, 2008 when Courtney passed away after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her three children – Gary Allen Strosnider (Nicky), Patricia ‘Gail’ May (Trenton), and Donna Darlene Bauserman (Matt); four grandchildren – Amanda Street (Jason), Christopher Strosnider (Kathryn), Joshua Bauserman (Ashley), and Sarah Brown (Ray), and 10 great-grandchildren – Ethan Street, Kennady Street, Samuel Strosnider, Abigail Strosnider, Callie Bauserman, Hollis Bauserman, Mackenzie Brown, Roman Brown, Briella Brown, and Zion Brown, along with a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful pets Cappuccino and Tom. She was preceded in death by her siblings Norma Joyce Rudolph, Anna Jane Wolfe, Curtis ‘Larry’ McIlwee, and Ronald Allen McIlwee. Neva managed a dog grooming and kennel business at her Zepp home and enjoyed making her customers pretty and smelling good before going home to their owners. Along with her love for animals, she loved her flowers and could be found tending to her flower beds. She was a volunteer with the Star Tannery Fire Department Auxiliary and served her community for many years with the department from pie baking to running calls. Neva never wavered in her love and support for the community from Star Tannery to Woodstock. She served as an EMT for the Woodstock Volunteer Rescue Squad where she was acknowledged as a Lifetime Associate member; spent many weekends volunteering at the North-South Scrimmage Association events providing EMT support during competitions in Frederick County, VA; and served at the Cedar Creek Precinct for elections. Granny Neva will be remembered as a sweet and sometimes spicy lady who will be greatly missed by her loving family and numerous friends.
